Welcome to St Paul's San Diego UMC Church!

Greetings From Rev. Dr. Eugenio D. Raphael,

Welcome to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. We are a congregation of believers who love and

serve the Lord by serving the people of the community, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, Savior

of the world. We believe in God, creator of the world, the Holy Spirit of God which is at work in the

world carrying out God’s purposes, and in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who sacrificed his life on the

cross for the salvation of humanity. We believe that Jesus Christ will come again as prophesied in the

Scriptures to establish the reign of God in all the earth and dismantle the work of evil and the evil one

throughout the world.

Thank you for visiting our website. If you have any questions or if we may be of any help to you,

please feel free to send us a message or contact the Church office.

Rev. Dr. Eugenio D. Raphael, Pastor

Rev. Raphael, served as pastor of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of San Diego, CA, July 1,

2015, to June 30, 2021. After three years of retirement, 2021-2024, Pastor Raphael was appointed as

Interim Pastor to St. Paul’s on October 1, 2024. Previously, he served as pastor of Saint Mark UMC

2008 to 2015, and associate pastor at Holman UMC, Los Angeles, 2003 to 2008. Prior to coming to

California, Pastor Raphael served many congregations in Dallas, San Antonio, and Oklahoma. His

first appointment in the Los Angeles area came on July 1, 2003.

During his 45 years of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Pastor Raphael has functioned as an

ordained minister with various responsibilities. He has developed ministries with young people, young

adults, adults and senior adults. In addition, Pastor Raphael has served as Christian Education

Director, minister of evangelism, as well as pastoral care and counseling. In addition to preaching

regularly, he taught Bible study classes, led leadership development workshops, and a host of church

administrative duties. Moreover, Pastor Raphael enjoys preaching and teaching the Word of God,

praising the Lord with song, and praying for the healing and spiritual needs of the people of God and

the community. He is convinced that God is at work in the Church, the community and the entire

world as Savior and Lord of all.

Children’s Ministry

Carol Trammel, Chair

Children’s Ministry is dedicated to expanding spiritual growth experiences of children through Sunday

school, worship, through field trips and special seasonal events such as Black History month, Lent,

Easter, VBS, Advent and Christmas celebrations. We have endeavored to make lessons and

activities during Sunday School fun and enjoyable and apply Christian principles to their daily lives

and experiences. We provide field trips to the New Children's Museum, summer movies, and visits to

the Pumpkin Patch. Field trips have generated a growing enthusiasm to come to Church and Sunday

School. Our curriculum includes learning the books of the Bible in order, sharing key biblical stories,

and learning about the seasons of the Church year. Ministries with children will continue to interact

with young people and their parents to continue to enjoy the activities and their relationships to St.

Paul’s Church and to Jesus Christ our Lord.

Food Pantry

Lynnette Hayes, Chair

The Food Pantry and the Diaper & Feminine Hygiene program are two special outreach ministries of

St. Paul’s UMC to the community committed to providing food assistance, diapers, and female

hygiene products to help persons in need. Our Pantry opened its doors in 2016 and is a significant

part of the community. The need is great, as evidenced by the large number of persons served, a

total of 783 households, in the year 2024.

The St. Paul’s UMC Food Bank is sponsored by Jacob and Cushman which provide healthy and

wholesome food for St. Paul’s program to distribute. St. Paul’s Food Pantry has provided food

security to the surrounding community.

The Food Pantry and the Diaper and feminine products are open on the first and fourth Thursdays

of every month, 12-2 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. We distribute food to anyone who needs it. Everyone who

wishes to receive donations from the Food/Diaper and Feminine Products Pantry must complete a

brief application after which they will receive an I.D. card to present when coming to receive items.

The St. Paul’s UMC Food Bank is sponsored by Jacob and Cushman which provide healthy and

wholesome food for St. Paul’s program to distribute to residents of the community. We continue to

provide a positive and compassionate service to the individuals and families in the community.

Ministry with Young Families

Parents of Toddler Ministry

Dr. Karen Peirre, Chair

`

The mission of the Parents of Toddlers Ministry is to provide support in a Christian environment to

parents of toddlers in our congregation and local community. We have provided a Potty-Training

Class annually in the fall for the past three years, which has been highly welcomed and supported

by our congregation and well attended by residents of the community. A Certified Potty-Training

Consultant provides a PowerPoint presentation via Zoom and answered questions about potty

training. In addition, another consultant provides Spanish translation for the class. Moreover,

toddlers are provided potties, Toddler Bibles, backpacks, step stools, preschool workbooks, Potty

training charts with reward stickers, Potty training pull-ups, and underwear.

Members of St. Paul’s UMC of San Diego and volunteers from the Chicano Federation provide the

needed volunteer support that makes this event truly successful. As a result of this ministry some

participants also attend our worship services and other special events of St. Paul’s UMC.

Post COVID-19 Support Group

Facilitator, Linda Cochran-Johnson

The support group is moving into its third year. The group's primary focus has been providing a safe

place where women can come together and share their concerns about the impact of COVID-19 on

their lives, their families, and close friends within the community. The group meets on the second

Saturday of each month to share concerns, provide feedback, reinforce and/or develop a deeper

level of empathy, share common values, and establish safe and healthy boundaries.

In addition, developing coping skills to reduce anxiety and depression that could lead to long-term

mental health concerns are among essential goals of the support group. Emphasis is placed on

Participants willingness to learn how to forgive self-first in order to reconnect and develop stronger

spiritual relations with others and God. All women are welcome to participate.

Alcoholics Anonymous

St. Paul’s UMC eagerly welcomes and hosts a chapter of the Alcoholics Anonymous program in the

Fellowship Hall, every Friday at 12:00 Noon. All who are seeking help and support in this area of

life are welcome to attend and/or contact the offices of AA San Diego. We are here for you weekly.
